The Problems (And Benefits) Of Aging

I often hear people complaining about getting older, frequently when I’m muttering to myself since nobody really wants to hear what I have to say anymore. But it’s important to remember that there are a lot of benefits to aging that go way beyond social security checks, senior movie tickets, and a special 20 percent discount every Thursday at Goodwill when you get the chance to buy back all the favorite sweaters that you accidentally donated last week instead of dropping them off at the cleaners.

For instance:

Problem: The hair on your head stops growing and falls out, while the hair inside your ears suddenly sprouts like a potato in the spring.
Benefit: Maybe you’re a little too old to start wearing a nose ring, but how many people are cool enough to have tiny Rastafarian dreadlocks hanging out the sides of their head?

Problem: Various aches and pains cause you to grunt every time you have to stand up out of a chair.
Benefit: Cats and small dogs will know exactly when it’s time to scamper away so they don’t get stepped on while you’re teetering in every possible direction to try to find your balance.

Problem: The trendy new World Cuisine restaurant on the corner only accepts credit cards or bitcoins and won’t let you pay for a meal with the good old American dollars you have stashed under your mattress.
Benefit: You’ll never have to stand in line for an hour for a chance to experience the heartburn of Thai Chili Tarantulas or Mint Jellied Moose Nose.

Problem: Your children are afraid to let you drive them anywhere in your car until you get your eyes, ears, and brakes checked.
Benefit: You are now free to crank up the oldies radio station as loud as you like to listen to the Archies singing “Sugar, Sugar” and the Monkees playing “Last Train to Clarksville.”

Problem: The people you’ve known the longest are looking really wrinkled, spotted, and decrepit.
Benefit: Anyone who sees you with them will immediately see how much more handsome you are and always have been.

Problem: All the books you’ve saved to read when you retire are full of dust and smell like someone’s dirty gym socks. Also the print seems to have shrunk since you bought them.
Benefit: After clearing them off your shelves to donate to the library book sale you now have lots of space to display your 40 year collection of hotel shampoo bottles and soap bars.

Problem: You sometimes have trouble remembering things like what you came to the grocery store to buy, or whether or not you put on your pants.
Benefit: While you scour the house to try to find where somebody hid your phone you often come across other valuable objects that you had forgotten were lost like your favorite coffee mug or your wallet.

Problem: The friends that you used to go out dancing with now go to bed at 8 pm, before most clubs even open.
Benefit: They don’t mind you calling them to talk when the bars close at 3 am because they needed to get up to pee, too.

Problem: The friends you used to go out to eat with now want to have dinner at 4 pm and you hate ordering off the Early Bird Menu because you can’t stop thinking that the early bird gets the worms. Which is really not what you want to be thinking when you’re ordering spaghetti and meatballs.
Benefit: When you eat dinner that early you’re ready for breakfast when you can’t go back to sleep at 3 am.

Problem: The friends that used to like to talk for hours about rock concerts and backpacking to Nepal now want to tell you all the details about their latest colonoscopy and knee replacement.
Benefit: They no longer insist that you all have to get stoned and listen to a tape of Iron Butterfly’s “In a Gadda Da Vida” played backwards.

Problem: You often find yourself needing to sit on the toilet for longer than it took John Glenn to orbit the Earth. And if you’re reading this and don’t know who John Glenn was, that’s also a problem.
Benefit: Finding out that Metamucil tastes just like Tang, the instant beverage invented for astronauts, so that now every morning you can pretend that you’re getting ready to blast off into space.

Bold Hairstyles that Are Probably Not Gonna Catch On

It’s like people are at constant war with their own hair. We’ve seen people’s bold and questionable haircuts get roasted, and we’ve seen cringeworthy hair monstrosities from the 80s. Hairstyles are a good way to express yourself. It’s just that sometimes extreme hairstyles inspire some questions about the type of self that person’s expressing.

4 Times Oprah Winfrey Forgot To Arrange Prizes For Her Audience So She Just Gave Away Some Of Her Hair

During the 25-year run of her popular talk show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, host Oprah Winfrey was famous for giving her studio audience exciting gifts to take home with them. But in these four instances, Oprah forgot to arrange prizes for the audience, so she just gave away some of her hair instead.

1. The time Oprah tried to argue that hair is just as practical of a gift as a dishwasher

In this 1998 episode, Oprah was raving about her new Kenmore dishwasher and hinting that her audience members were really going to enjoy their new dishwashers, too, when she suddenly remembered that she hadn’t actually arranged a deal with Kenmore for a giveaway. Panic flashed across her face before she quickly changed the topic, saying, “And you know what’s exactly as useful as a dishwasher? Oprah’s hair!” She then darted backstage and returned holding a pair of scissors. As she chopped off chunks of her hair into the hands of her frowning audience members, she tried to hype up the hair as a practical item. “Think of all you can do with this hair. You could cover up a bald spot. You could put it in a jar. You could even laminate it and make an awesome coaster,” she said. “Wow. What a handy gift from Oprah!”

2. The time Oprah made the audience leave the studio for five minutes so she could put hair under their seats

At the end of this 2001 episode, Oprah realized she’d forgotten to tell her contact at Penguin Publishing Group when to deliver 200 copies of The Secret Life Of Bees, and, rather than let her guests leave empty handed, she asked them to exit the studio for a moment while she “set up an amazing giveaway.” Oprah spent the next five minutes running around her studio, furiously chopping off pieces of her hair and stuffing them under the seats. Once the audience returned, the now-bald Oprah instructed them to close their eyes, reach for their prize under the seat, and see if they could guess what it was. One audience member called out, “Is it hair?” to which Oprah responded, “Not just any hair. It’s Oprah’s haaaaaaaair!” as “Celebration” by Kool & The Gang began to play.

3. The time Oprah tried to make the gift of hair more exciting by letting the audience cut it off themselves

When Oprah’s plan to give her audience Microsoft Zunes ran into logistical issues right before the taping of this 2006 episode, she once again decided to give away her hair. After an interview with Pink about her new album, Oprah asked her if she could stick around and help out with “a special treat for the audience.” The audience cheered as Pink agreed, and Oprah immediately handed her a pair of scissors she’d had in her pocket. Producers then wheeled out a barber’s chair and wrapped a smock around Oprah as she explained, “All of you will come onto the stage one by one. Pink will hand you scissors, then you can cut off a little piece of Oprah’s hair for yourself!” The guests reluctantly participated, and despite Oprah’s insistence that they “have fun with it,” and “cut off as much as you want, because I’ve got more than you think,” the audience membersand Pinkclearly weren’t having a good time. And although Oprah was totally bald by the time it was Pink’s turn, she demanded Pink cut off some of her eyebrow hair so that she wouldn’t go home without a gift.

4. The time Oprah walked out with a shaved head and everyone groaned because they knew what they were in for

By the time Oprah gave away her hair in this 2010 episode, her audience was well aware that this was something she might do, which explains why they groaned when she walked out with a totally shaved head, holding a box brimming with hair labeled “OPRAH’S MAGIC BOX,” and introduced a segment of the same name. Oprah claimed there were “hundreds of different give-away gifts in the box,” and that each audience member would leave with “an incredible, unique prize.” She then walked the box around to each guest and told them to reach in and grab something, reacting with feigned surprise when they picked her hair every single time. “Wow. Hard to believe that you got Oprah’s Hair, too! That rules! It’s going to look so nice on your mantel!” she exclaimed as the 30th guest in a row grabbed a handful of her tresses. This “segment” took Oprah the entire episode to complete, bumping what would have been an interview with first lady Michelle Obama.

Dude Messes Up By Not Washing His Hair Properly For 10 Years

This guy experienced quite the wakeup call when he realized that he’d been washing his hair incorrectly for over 10 years. What he previously assumed was an unavoidable case of white flakes peppering the barber shop’s floor every time he went in for a visit, was actually a symptom of very poor hygiene. Or at least that’s how it sounds. Sounds like he proceeded to make sure things were squeaky clean up top, for going forwards. Lesson learned. Better late than never!

Woman Who Thinks She’s an Influencer Wants Hair Done For Cheap

This is what happens when a wannabe so-called “Influencer” with 10k followers thinks they can swing their weight around and bully a person into doing a job for less than minimum wage. Honestly, who thinks they can waste other people’s time with this kind of BS? By the way, if you want to waste more time looking at more of this kind of BS, here’s way more laughably entitled cheapskates.
