All About Woods Porn: The Rite Of Passage Known To People Born Before 1990

Woods porn. It’s not a complicated concept, but it’s a dying phenomenon that most people under 30 have yet to experience. As people turn to their smart phones for their dirty, dirty browsing activities, young and horny kids are missing out on the experience of chancing upon raunchymagazines in public (and often creepy places). It’s a goddamn shame, and the folks at Cracked are here to delve deep into the history of this bizarre rite of passage. Gather round, Gen Z. We’re about to go on a journey through time.

Common Animal Sounds In Languages Around The Globe

This is neat! We’ve never given much thought as to what “sounds” languages around the world would give certain animals.

Not to sound naive but we definitely thought “meow” was universal for the sound a cat makes… turns out, not so much.

Creator of this super interesting and well-drawn graphics is freelance illustrator James Chapman. You can follow his Tumblr, Instagram, Facebook and/or Twitter to be kept up-to-date with these fanasinating graphics! Did you know, in English, we say dogs go “Woof,” but in Romanian they go “Ham Ham?”

Just something to think about.

Photomosaic Of Cats To Create Single Image (Gifs)

These are so cool to watch!

What is a Photomosaic? A Photomosaic, is a picture that has been divided into (usually equal sized) tiled sections, each of which is replaced with another photograph that matches the target photo.

In this case, we have a target image on the left and on the right, a plethora of cat images coming together! It’s mesmerizing and we can totally watch way more of these!

Text - giraffepoliceforce I love this story because this guy in the early 1800's had so many great childhood memories of this tree and wanted to make sure it was protected no matter what. So he deeded the ownership of the tree to itself and everyone just went with it. Then in 1942 this intense windstorm came and knocked the tree over. And people were bummed. But someone had saved an acorn from the original tree, so they planted that and now Son of the Tree That Owns Itself is over 50 feet tall.

Tumblr Thread: “Ask” People and “Guess” People

Depending on how you grew up, you might be the type of person who just asks for stuff and is fine taking no for an answer, or you might be the type of person who wasn’t brought up to say no and lives in a world of more passive expectations. Either way, the theory helps explain why both groups have such a hard time communicating. Foranother weird psychological thing, here’s a guy’s discovery that different people have different internal monologues.

1.

Text - mefitours-blog-blog Ask Culture and Guess Culture "One of my wife's distant friends has attempted to invite herself to stay with us, again," writes the exasperated owner of a prime 2 bedroom apartment in New York City in this Ask MetaFilter question. "She did this last March, and we used the excuse of me starting a new job and needing to do x, y, and z as well as the "out of town" excuse for any remaining dates. This got us off scot-free, but we both knew the time would come again... and

2.

Text - The first few answers give this poster very direct advice: Just say no. No need to give an explanation, it's her who's being rude by asking. Others give him advice that was probably more like what he was expecting: other ways to be vague like claiming that it's "“One of those random 'Life in NYC things." Another thread of discussion popped up around whether or not the woman asking for a place to stay was being rude. Some posters couldn't understand how simply asking to stay in someone's a

3.

Text - In Guess Culture, you avoid putting a request into words unless you're pretty sure the answer will be yes. Guess Culture depends on a tight net of shared expectations. A key skill is putting out delicate feelers. If you do this with enough subtlety, you won't even have to make the request directly; you'll get an offer. Even then, the offer may be genuine or pro forma; it takes yet more skill and delicacy to discern whether you should accept. All kinds of problems spring up around the edge

4.

Text - Obviously she's an Ask and you're a Guess. (I'm a Guess too. Let me tell you, it's great for, say, reading nuanced and subtle novels; not so great for, say, dating and getting raises.) Thing is, Guess behaviors only work among a subset of other Guess people – ones who share a fairly specific set of expectations and signalling techniques. The farther you get from your own family and friends and subculture, the more you'll have to embrace Ask behavior. Otherwise you'll spend your life in a

5.

Text - After this comment many users, including the original poster himself, began to use these terms in discussing the issue. And why wouldn't they? Ask Culture and Guess Culture describe two valid yet opposing ways of interacting with the world with very little value judgment given to them. Framing the argument as such was a stroke of utter genius by tangerine, broadening the perspective of many who participated in the discussion and adding to the general lifebuzz.

6.

Text - aeveee This is fascinating. My mom was, I think, a variety of Guess culture. She disliked telling her kids no to reasonable requests. We learned to make flat/information statements like "I'm going to need a ride after school on Friday," and if she responded with another flat stament like "I have to work until 5 on Friday," then we knew we had to problem solve an alternative. My parents divorced when I was 12. One summer spent with my dad when I was 16, he blew up at me. "Why don't you jus

7.

Text - Thoughts: -I wonder how many failed relationships and divorces have mixed ask/guess culture as a component? -I wonder how many other like me there are- trained in both cultures due to a mixed marriage-and what this does to our own relationships. -why is this not a widely known thing? Good god it seems a HUGE facet of effective communication and l'm only just hearing about it at 51 years old? Is there a book about this somewhere? Dammit...

8.

Text - ford-ye-fiji My mother is an asker and my dad is a guesser and sometimes I have to butt in and translate what each other is trying to say XD I didn't even know there was a word for it!! tellmevarric I learned to give people permission to say no to me. A lot of people, more than I ever expected, have trouble saying no, especially when, like in the original post, it's because they just don't want to, not because they have a reason. (As if not wanting to isn't a valid reason... but I digress

9.

Text - When I was a teenager visiting family, apparently my aunt got tired of having to ask me and my sisters what we wanted all the time and asked us to speak up and said 'if you don't ask, you don't get. At the time I thought this was partly a lesson in gaining self confidence but at the same time I realized if I just ask and not expect everyone to guess, I can get more of what I need out of life with less stress. Fast forward to now. My mother is still an extreme Guesser and three of my siste

10.

Text - And if they say no, I don't ask why, I don't get passive aggressive and I don't get angry or upset. I don't dwell on it. They've said no and that's final. I thank them, then I move the conversation on. Two of the most valuable things you can learn is how to say no and how to accept no.

This quick and fun Tumblr thread features all kinds of cool rocks. Anyone geeking out over something like rocks (which are awesome) is a whole lot of fun for the rest of the world. The passion shines through. We love it.

1.

Rock - Though you may assume this is a Small Rock, it is in fact a very Large Rock, and also a very Heavy Rock, but most especially a very Square Rock, which is what makes it particularly cool.

2.

Rock - reddpenn Anyway, do you guys want to see my Cool Rocks? This is my grandfather's rock. It is Probably a Garnet, which he mined out himself when he was in college studying to be a geologist.

3.

Product - Here we have a rock which used to be a tree. This rock is petrified wood! It was one of my very first Cool Rocks!

4.

Turtle - Speaking of rocks that used to be things that were not rocks, this rock is Petoskey stone! This rock used to be a coral. Let's get a good look at those patterns.

5.

Brown - Now that's a Cool Rock!

6.

Rock - Amethyst? It's an Okay Rock. If you are looking for an inexpensive rock to start your collection, amethyst is the way to go. It's a quartz with a deep purple color. A very nice, if average, rock.

7.

Mineral - Now citrine... Citrine is a Cool Rock! It's a smoky quartz with a lovely honey color. The druzy on my chunk of citrine has a wonderful sparkle.

8.

Turquoise - This is my Amazonite! It grew that hexagon shape all by itself! This specimen is from Colorado.

9.

Hand - Look at this shiny little slice of rock! This rock is Tiger Iron, and those bands of red and orange glow beautifully with some light behind them. These different colored bands are made from Hematite (the dark silver), Jasper (the red- orange), and Tiger-Eye quartz (the yellow- orange).

10.

Green - Here's a rock you've probably seen before! This Cool Rock is Malachite. The patterns and rings are from the stalagmites this little egg was carved from.

11.

12.

Rock - This is my Best and most Favorite Cool Rock. In this dark room it's a dull little grey rock, but if I move it closer to the light..

13.

Rock - Those glints of gold! Those veins of blue! This rock is most certainly Labradorite, which changes color spectacularly when the light hits it just right. Let's put it in direct sunlight.

14.

Diamond - Yes! YES! There it is! The Best and Coolest Rock!!!!!

Celebrity encounters can be a magical time where people cross paths with their heroes, and those heroes actually kind of live up to the hype. Other times though, it’s a moment when one realizes that celebrities (even the “heroic ones”) are just like any other human being. Often full of emotions, complications, thoughts, etc. If anything, some of those celebs might just be hurting for an opportunity to bond with another human being on a basic human being level, with no society enforced roles being played.

Alaskan Drive-In Comedy Show Has “Honk When You Laugh” Policy

Live stand-up comedy is a hard thing to do during a nationwide quarantine. This particular approach has audience members drive in and tune in to a particular radio station tuned to each comic’s mic. To get some real-time feedback there’s the policy of “honk when you laugh.” It’s weird to see a parking lot full of cars honking and have it be a good thing, but the idea is definitely a creative solution to the issue of holding a live event.

Tumblr Drops Intriguing Knowledge on Ancient Female Pharaoh

Apparently by trying to erase the long and successful reign of this pharaoh, using her stuff as wall filler and throwing all her junk in a dump, they accidentally ended up preserving it. Pretty neat. Artist Makes Sculptures Out of Recycled Silverware

Matt Wilson, the artist behind these extraordinary sculptures, is influenced by natural elements of the environment in which he lives.

He dives into his sculpture exploration on his website, “Using recycled and organic materials- scrap metal, reclaimed wood, bone, etc., my sculptures depict continuous life cycles that consciously and unconsciously permeate our awareness. The upcycled work I create is a testimony to the belief of conserving and appreciating our resources, so that the environment in which we live will continue to be an environment in which we desire to live.

My goal as an artist is to make artwork unlike art people have seen, while at the same time recognizable in the identity of everyday materials. I only hope the sculptures will inspire others to appreciate the simple, neglected items from which my creations are born.”

We think Wilson achieved that goal with these mesmerizing pieces of art.

Prepare to be stunned.

Un-Orca-strated: Orcas Interrupt A Six-Year-Old Girls’ Water Ski Lesson

Natalie Kepa took her six-year-old daughter, Stella, waterskiing in Kumutoto Bay, New Zealand, when they ran into something unexpected — orcas!

Kepa told Storyful that upon first seeing the orcas, she simply “didn’t know what to do.”

As you can see in the video, Stella is absolute natural waterskiing, her mom and others cheer her on as she takes on this new activity for the very first time. However, soon those cheers turn into shouts of shock.

“I was beside myself,” Natalie told Storyful. Stella, on the other hand, “totally loved it,” Natalie said. She “was crazily calm throughout” and is now keen to get out again as her friends thing she’s an awesome “whale rider.”

According to Whale Facts, orcas tackle large prey and won’t attack a human unless threatened. Did you know that there are no known cases of humans being killed by them in the wild? Just something to chew on.

Be sure to look at the bottom of the video under the wake at 0:29 in the water… CRAZY.

Double-Take Inducing Photos of Intriguing Perspective

Weird perspective can make your brain do some weird things, like giving people animal faces, making inanimate objects accidentally dirty, and making giant birds.
